Cold Formed Steel Girder
Figure 2 shows the bridge.
The bridge configuration consists of two cross-braced piers that placed in the irrigation canal. The side span a ≅ 4 m, and the central span b ≅ 2 m. The piers' columns are made of square hollow sections, while the remaining steel members are made of lipped channels; they are connected by welding. The deck is made of bamboo pole slices (length of about 1 m) that are placed over non-continuous girders. Two lateral members (marked with L) are connected to the external girders and the side slopes in the upstream region. The external girders of the side spans are also connected to inclined members (marked with I) that are asymmetrically arranged, as shown in the schematic lateral view in figure 3.
Would an alternative variant made of lipped channels without the piers and the lateral and inclined members be possible?
Abutments
Abutments are not installed; the girders are placed directly onto the side slopes, as shown in figure 4.
